Bruckner was only 11 years old when she began her career. Bruckner appeared in several commercials, television pilots as well as the soap drama The Bold and the Beautiful during the daytime in 1999. Bruckner was 15 when she got her first big role as a teenager girl in Blue Car (2002). In the film, Bruckner was portrayed as a high school student having an illicit affair with David Strathairn. Roger Ebert, a film critic, wrote that Bruckner was able to perform the challenging role with total conviction. The role of Bruckner was nominated in the Independent Spirit Awards as "Best Female lead". She was raised along with three siblings, two sisters and a brother. Her routine was to learn Hungarian to keep her fluency. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father and the Russian mother. They later divorced her paternal grandfather was German. Her parents met in Hungary and relocated into the U.S. in 1984 through a refugee camp in Italy. Her siblings include two sisters and a brother.
